In my blog, I try to include all types of vacationing, even the kind I may not do. So when I got an email that touted “nakationing,” I said to myself, “This is something I must share with my readers.”

Nakationing is the clever name given to going on a nudist-type vacation. And where better to have the Nudist Clubhouse Nudist Expo 2012 than in Las Vegas on June 1-2.

It’s just $20 for a one-day pass, which can be purchased at the door, or $25 for both days. The two- day pass must be purchased in advance online.

Exhibitors from nudist resorts across the country, travel agents specializing in nakation travel and nude cruises, the American Association for Nude Recreation and numerous other affiliated groups will have materials and resources, whether you are a nakation veteran or just curious (and aren’t we all a little curious?).

Other events in addition to the expo include a nude barbecue and pool party ($65) and KISS themed glow-in-the-dark mini-golf ($28).

Trelise Cooper: I absolutely adore the historical aspect of clothing. My ranges are full of influences from 19th-century French, English, even American vintage styles. So its no surprise I have always enjoyed combing through flea markets in small towns and finding rare antique gems to steal some inspiration.

Im also obsessed with detail, so when I find a Victorian gown or a 50s bridal slip that I like, then its important for me to be able to emulate the exact stitching, embroidery or beading used at the time. In the West, unfortunately, most of our expert hand-stitching traditions have been lost — the skills have not been passed on and the seamstress geniuses from the couture houses of Europe have not been replaced.

That is why Im often traveling to India. Its one of the very best places in the world to find that expertise still thriving. From one village to the next you find whole families, generations, that have their own specialties of stitch work.

Honestly, I can give them any old historical piece that Ive found and they will either take it away and recreate it almost perfectly, or theyll say hmmm … I dont know this stitching, but I know a place nearby that does. Its a fashion designers dream!

So in one sense, Ive been fusing my clothes with Indian influences for a while. However, I think this was the first time Ive traveled to India with a conscious intention to create a fusion of styles: their own traditional dress with my more modern, western creations.

During the month of May, Beading Divas to the Rescue will sell one-of-a kind beaded bracelets to benefit Cold Wet Noses.

Every month the Divas for which I am one (Beading and otherwise) choose a different animal charity to raise money for. There are seven women who are the original Beading Divas (Angy, Cynthia, Glenda, Michelle, Karyn, Lizzie, and Loren) who came together to raise $14,300 for Lizzie whose greyhounds were injured in a catastrophic car accident. Dogs recovered and now doing fine. There are hundreds of honorary beading divas who donate beads, help make bracelets, and sometimes sell to coworkers or friends.

On our birthday month, one of the original seven divas can choose the group of the month without input or voting from the other six. May is my birthday month and I chose Cold Wet Noses.

I chose CWN because they are so out there. Cold Wet Noses is all volunteer and pulls dogs from PACCs kill line often at the 11th hour. In 2011, CWN rehomed 366 dogs! That’s akin to a dog a day!

I also chose CWN because in December of last year, I wanted a 9 year old dog named Reagan to find a home. I saw his sad photo on the PACC Pet Facebook page. His owner died and gave Reagan to a friend (some friend). For no other reason, other than he was old, Reagan was going to die. I asked CWN to take Reagan and they said they would with a foster home. I have a big mouth on Facebook and blogged about that and lo and behold a friend of a friend (Tina Roose) rose to the occasion. She reached out and fostered Reagan and became a volunteer at CWN. She is my hero. I am honoring her by choosing CWN. Tina has since adopted Reagan.

More about Cold Wet Noses:
Started in 2005 but became an official non profit in 2010. Since their inception they have rehomed approximately 1,650 dogs!

In 2011
-$42,000 veterinarian bills
-Paid $6,100 for dog food, medications and other pet supplies; -CWN also receives dog food donations from PET CLUB and/or buys it from Costco ($30/40 lb bag).
Currently they have 57 foster homes but that number changes daily

Cold Wet Noses Wish List
-more fold down wire crates – mostly size medium
-another pop up tent for adoption events
-a storage shed
more foster homes
-more volunteers to help walk dogs at PACC

One-of-a-kind coiled bracelets cost $20 and every bracelet comes with a paw charm. Bracelets make great heartfelt gifts for MOTHERS DAY on May 13. The entire $20 goes directly to CWN. You can pay with cash or a check made out directly to the charity. Be generous!
