Monday, December 5th, 2011Welcome back to Round 2 of the most difficult things about vacationing while pregnant! Seriously, by the end of this, Id like to hear what I forgot because Im fairly certain there are more than 10.
So, weve prepped for vacationing with our family Packed Ready to go Arrived at our destination, and even addressed our current pregnant emotional state
Lets dive right in!
If needed, you can back up and check out the Top 5 of 10 Most Difficult Things About Vacationing While Pregnant too.
6. Pee Houses- There just arent enough. No matter where you are vacationing, dining in restaurants, lounging poolside, camping in the great outdoors, the public restrooms need to be located AS SOON AS POSSIBLE upon arrival. Occasionally this can pose a problem, lets say if youre on a romantic evening cruise on a catamaran, or in the middle of a line to ride Space Mountain.
7. Break Spots- Whether you plop on a bench while your little one rides a ride that you cant go on, take a breather from the sunshine to sit under an umbrella, or pass on skiing down the slopes to sit by the fire, if you are pregnant and taking a break from any type of excursion, you WILL sit next to someone who will quiz you about your fetus. There are only so many times you can say No habla Ingles before your companions return and then youre busted. Brace yourselves for questions and comments like, youve got to be so bored. You cant do any of this stuff. My suggested response to that is to laugh and then take a big bite out of your overpriced turkey leg.
8. Sensory Overload- Our pregnant senses are entirely out of our control. Trust me, if we could turn the dial down on them, we would. Lights, sounds, SMELLS, and (for me) having my personal space invaded by strangers (ie bumped into, standing too close, choosing the seat RIGHT NEXT TO YOU when there are plenty others) has the potential of sending a pregnant woman spiraling.
9. Sleep- Your sleep is going to be affected regardless. Youre pregnant thats how it works. If you are brave enough to endure traveling to another time zone, I have a medal waiting for you and an ice cream cone. If possible, take your pillow (especially if you have a maternity pillow) with you when you vacay. Something familiar that keeps you comfortable will be so appreciated by your body.
10. Dining- This can be both a blessing and a curse depending on where you are in your pregnancy and where you are vacationing. I personally dont want to be lounging at an all-inclusive resort with a bunch of 20-somethings shooting tequila off one anothers bodies when Im pregnant but thats me. Consider the food and meals available to you when choosing your locale and make sure to take your evening/late night snacking in to account as well, whether you pack your own stash or are able to order room service at all hours of the night.
